House of Pancakes: Style of House

Happy Wednesday Friends….

This past weekend we set up an account with a bank in the South which made it more and more official that we are moving down under…very soon.

Our decision to eventually move to the South came as a result of ongoing conversations between Mr. Pancakes and i since we first started dating.    He went to the school in the South and being from the East just fell in love with Southern hospitality and charm, better place to raise a family, awesome weather and affordability of living.

And the fact that our dreams are becoming a reality for our family is exciting me to the core.  It’s important for couples to dream and think together.  And when the dream is close to being realized it’s a wonderful experience.

According to my little app (savings jar) we have achieved 40% of our overall financial goal for a down payment and emergency savings.  Therefore, I thought it was important for me to start putting things down on the blog so when the time comes, I know exactly what we I want.  Mr. Pancakes at the end of the day wants a house he can live in comfortably.  Baby Pancakes would probably love his own big backyard.  Not I, I have a list of items on my house hunting wish list.  And since I have been an avid HGTV House Hunting fanatic for years, you know I have a very specific wish list.

Today’s post is all about the style of house I would want in our future House of Pancakes.  I am hoping that these posts will serve as my living wish list as our move approaches.

I have lived in small and big houses , apartments, condos, dorms and town homes throughout my lifetime but the one thing that remains constant of course is the love and happiness that is within the house that makes it a home.  So the list is obviously wishes…a big or small style of house is not going to make our home.  But at the same time, I have preferences.

I always disliked houses like these (with the big garage in the front) because they reminded me of the ones I used to draw when i was younger.  Definitely the ideal home but as i got older, i didn’t appreciate the bulkiness of garages.

Very cute in drawings but not so much in my ideal reality.

The house disappears and all I can focus on is the big white garage.  Houses like these don’t bother Mr. Pancakes but it does me…we will have to compromise…hopefully i win!!

This house looks nice but it also reminds me of the fantasy home….it’s maybe too grand and i wouldn’t necessarily want to clean that big of a house.20140309-222115.jpg

This house would be ideal…it seems compact and cute…although i am not a big fan of the walkway.  I do like the greenery but the walkway is too narrow.

This is another hose i really like…it’s compact but appears spacious at the same time.  i like the big entrance and it just appears to be welcoming.

I’ve been eyeing this type of house for a long time and it’s perfect.  The garage is there but hidden.  The main entrance has closure for when it’s raining.  The walkway is big and wide.  And the house it’self is just perfect.  I would move into this type of house today.

There you have it…my ideal style of house.  I am realizing (even through these posts) that I am going to be really, really picky when it comes to house hunting.  In the end  I we I will choose the style of house that is perfect for us.  It might be one with a large garage in front, narrow walkway or hidden garage and large walkway…whichever one we choose, I know it will be perfect for us.

Question of the Day: What were you most picky with when you were purchasing your home?  Or what are you obsessing over as you get ready to purchase?

YAY, so excited for you guys. That time when your plans are coming together nicely is the best ever. We have one of those houses with the garage in the front and though I don’t love it, I love how easy it is to get into the garage.

I love your favorite choice. You totally have to be picky with your dream house, I mean you’ll be stuck in there forever 🙂

    • Thanks Peg, it’s been so many sacrifices but I can’t wait for it all to come together. Ooh I never thought about how easy that makes getting into the garage…well look at that…the real purpose:-) thanks for sharing that insight!!

I laughed when I saw the first house because I called it a “garage house” and totally didn’t want one. What do you think my first house looked like? A garage house LOL! I ultimately decided the flow of interior was way more important than a minor thing on the outside. I’m not an outdoors girl so I never spend time in my front yard.

That said, my next house will have a hidden garage like all the other houses do. I want one big door though. I have two now and it is a pain trying to shoehorn my car just so into a that space when I have to get 2 kids out of carseats.

Also looking for a big fenced in backyard for the kids. My current backyard sucks. I am kind of house-crazy right now even though we won’t buy for ~5 years. 🙂

    • Lol @ garage house…now I have a name to tell the realtor!!! I think I will probably change my mind too once we begin to really search. It’s crazy to get all caught up in house hunting but it is a big deal…good luck on your future home. I know I’ll come to your blog for many home decor ideas once we move:-)

First I have to say, I am so glad that you and Mr. Pancakes are planning for the future. And actually taking the steps necessary to reach your goal. I know many people who aspire to home ownership (dream or starter) and are taking no steps towards it. It’s tough to buy a house when you have no money saved and no clue how to budget for unexpected expenses. Owning a home is wonderful but it’s nothing like renting! Never heard of the app you mentioned. Gonna check that out!
And I love your favorite house! I hate staring straight at the garage. So I really like that they make it look like a part of the house. And the long driveway for extra cars is great. The style of house I like the most is colonial with the porch and side garage. They are so warm and inviting.

We are thisclose to having our starter house and we were super picky. One house checked off all the boxes but it just didn’t fell like home so we kept looking. I can’t imagine how we’ll be with our dream house! 🙂

All the houses are beautiful and I love your favorite house.
I was actually most picky about the master bathroom. It HAD to have real tiles and not the vinyl ish we had at the condo. Also, I wanted a toilet enclosure and a gas cooking range. I can’t cook with an electric range. I burn everything.
I got all but one of my must haves though so I am happy.

I am so happy for you that your dreams are coming together. The year will go by REALLY fast and before you know it, you’ll be in your dream location and then your dream home. Stay positive!
